I don't know how the world works. Today at school a documentary film-maker was interviewed. After watching a beautiful film the interviewer posed the question to the audience, "do you agree that our society isn't prepared for death?". All day prior to this I was feeling quite unwell and struggling to understand why lives can end so suddenly and without warning. So my first response was yes. But after thinking about the real question I decided that my answer was actually no. What we aren't prepared for is grief.
My favourite thought of late is that of trying to imagine that nothing had ever existed. It troubles me because I want to think about the world being a complete nothing, but I can't. My brain stops at that very moment. No one has ever known nothing, so no one can possibly imagine it.
