I had this cake at a friends house and had to get the recipe. After deciphering the old-lady scrawls I thought I would share the glory of it with those in the world they call the web.
One and a half cups of Self Raising FlourHalf a cup of Milk
Half a cup of Golden Syrup
One egg
Half a cup of Sugar
One teaspoon of Ginger
One Tablespoon of Cinnamon
Two oz of Butter
Half a teaspoon of Bicarbonate Soda(Dissolved in half a cup of boiling water)
Mix together flour, milk, syrup, egg, sugar, cinnamon and ginger. Add melted butter. Beat for four minutes and then add water with soda. Turn into a well greased slab tin and bake in moderate oven for twenty to twenty five minutes. Make an icing from icing sugar, brown sugar, butter and water.
